Sessions are usually 50 minutes in duration. Therapy is a very individualized process. Most clients find that participating in therapy twice a month progresses well. If clients need more or less frequency, I will accommodate the needs of that client. Frequency depends on what your current needs are and the goals of your treatment.
The length of time a client is in therapy depends the nature of the problem and the goals set in therapy. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set course of therapy. For others, counseling is an on-going learning process and they choose to participate in therapy for a longer period.
Unfortunately, sometimes one partner is not as willing as the other to come in for therapy. However, I often find that it is possible to improve the relationship with just one person involved in therapy.
I accept most insurance plans. The billing is completed by my office but your deductible and co-payments are your responsibility at each session. Self-payment is accepted for those who do not have insurance and/or do not want to utilize their insurance due to confidentiality concerns.
As a therapist, I am not legally allowed to prescribe medications. However, based on a joint assessment of problems you are facing, it may be advisable to consult with a psychiatrist to determine whether medication is warranted. Typically, clients see someone under their health insurance coverage or I can refer you to a psychiatrist or a nurse practitioner.
It is customary to make payment during each session. During your office visit, I am able to accept cash, checks, or major credit cards. For your convenience, I have added the ability to make a payment or pre-payment below with a major credit card via the Paypal button.
